PROVALE’S BACKGROUND

KEY DATES

Provale celebrated its twentieth anniversary on February 12, 2018. Twenty years of continuous fighting for the benefit of the players led by former and current players.
In 1995, some players had already thought about organizing the players to make their voices heard but it was only a few years later that the players created the SNJR, which later became Provale. We have the duty to remember our past, that’s why we decided to highlight the great moments and the actions that mark these twenty years of existence …

L'Association des Joueurs de Rugby voit le jour le 11 décembre 1995.

Première Assemblée Générale constitutive de l'AJR First general assembly of AJR.
June 1st players elect Philipppe Saint-André as 1st Provale president. Board is made up of Emile Ntamack (G.S), Olivier Brouzet (treasurer), Patrick Barthélémy, Philippe Bernat-Salles, Philippe Farner, David Arrieta, Nicolas Yves, Laurent Cabannes, Laurent Bénézech and Sam Noui.

Création du SNJR SNJR is set up. Jean-Marc Lhermet becomes the 1st president of SNJR. The executive committee is made up of Jean-Marc Lhermet (president), Emile Ntamack (1st vice-president), Jean-Michel Delgado (2nd vice-president), Pascal Valleau (G.S) and Rémi Trémoulet (treasurer).

Première réunion du comité directeur SNJR The first meeting of the board. 2 main issues for players : the setting up of a pension plan for the end of their career and a minimum of 9 weeks of rest between 2 seasons.

Le Players say “NO” to the LNR.  Players reject the proposal of the LNR to change the format of the competition.

Election de Serge Simon au syndicat de rugby Serge Simon elected president of the player association. The executive board is made up of  Fabien Pelous (vice-president), Franck Belot (treasurer), Marc Lièvremont (G.S), Eric Artiguste, Laurent Travini, Arnaud Vercruysse and Sylvain Deroeux.

Le SNJR devient Provale

SNJR become Provale 8 October, SNJR changes its name to become Provale.

November 2001

Première réunion entre Provale et les syndicats des clubs professionnels Provale joins IRPA. IRPA is created 6 November 2001 in London. It regroups countries such as France, England, South Africa and Australia. New Zealand will join IRPA shortly after that meeting. Provale joins FNASS and the other sports trade unions in France

Signature de la charte des internationaux Provale Signature of the charter for international players. This charter allows international players to benefit from social security rights for example.

Création de “La quatrième mi-temps” Provale organizes the 1st ever trophy night which later will become “Nuit du rugby”.

Création de l'Agence XV

Agence XV is set up. Jérôme Cazalbou becomes the 1st president. Agence XV’s aim is to help players with their dual career project. It’s co-funded by LNR, FFR and Provale.

January 2005

Agence XV financialy supports  Jean-Marie Bisaro for his dual career project.

March 2005

Signature de la Convention Collective du Rugby Professionnel (CCRP) Collective agreement is signed. After a couple of months of intense negotiation the social partners sign the collective agreement. It will enter into force the following season.

First unemployed player camp. The recent decrease in the number of professional clubs and the signature of the CBA encourage Provale to organize a camp for unemployed players.

July 2006

1st team visits with professional youth team. As part of Provale’s role, the work with youth players becomes more and more important this is why team visits are organized in each club.

Election de Sylvain Deroeux Sylvain Deroeux elected president. The board is made up of  Julien Bonnaire (1st vice-president), Serge Simon (2nd vice-president), Laurent Travini (G.S), Cyril Vancheri (treasurer), Karim Ghézal, Matthieu Laporte, Robins Tchale Watchou, Pierre Rabadan, Gwendal Ollivier, Jérôme Carré, Rida Jaouher, Salim Tébani, Olivier Gargallo, Antoine Bourdin, Florian Ninard, Sylvain Marconnet and François Mounier.

Création de la première cellule psychologique chez Provale 1st mental health helpline is set up. CAPS (Centre d’Accompagnement et de Prévention des Sportifs) and Provale are working together to provide rugby players with  mental health support.

Opération “Nous sommes tous Charlie”. Following the Paris terrorist attacks, players from Top 14 and Pro D2 wear tee-shirts supporting the victims.

July 2018

Amendement durée premier contrat proPlayers strongly oppose the new law that will increase the length of the first professional contract from 3 to 5 years.  A couple of weeks after the players action, the law was amended and the proposal was withdrawn.

September 2018

Caroline Drouin, first female player to receive a trophy for the best player of the year in the Elite 8. Provale pushed for women players to be included in the “nuit du rugby” and to receive a trophy. Caroline Drouin has made history for being the first female player to receive it.
